Discover how workplace concierge services improve QVCT, simplify employees’ daily lives, and strengthen their loyalty.
At ARMONIA, we have spent years working with very different teams, from small offices to large corporate complexes. One thing we have learned is that workplace integration activities are not a one-off event, but a key tool for building inclusive, safe, and collaborative environments. When someone feels integrated, they work better, communicate more confidently, and contribute more to the group.
This article shares our hands-on experience coordinating these activities through our Special Employment Centre, where each activity is adapted to the participants’ profiles and the pace of each team. If you are looking for practical, applicable and realistic ideas to improve cohesion in your company, here you will find a structured and useful guide.
The foundation of effective workplace integration activities is that they are real, functional, and have a clear objective. It is not just about breaking the ice, but about enhancing communication, strengthening trust, and creating an environment where everyone feels part of the project.
When we coordinate workplace integration activities, the first thing we observe is how team attitudes can change within minutes. People who barely spoke to each other start to collaborate, share ideas, and even solve problems together. These interactions, which may seem small, have a huge impact on a company’s daily life.
At our Special Employment Centre, we see every week how adapting activities can enhance individual abilities. Not all teams have the same pace or the same skills, and that is perfectly fine. Success is about adapting the activity—not requiring everyone to fit into the same mold.
Here we share some of the workplace integration activities that have delivered the best results for us, especially with diverse groups or teams needing to strengthen their cohesion.
We usually begin with simple exercises lasting 10 to 15 minutes, which do not create pressure and allow for natural participation. Some options that work especially well are:
These workplace integration activities help foster empathy and uncover common ground.
One that we use most at ARMONIA is the “collaborative construction” activity. We provide each group with simple materials (strings, sticks, clips) and a common objective, such as building a structure that can bear weight.
The activity typically lasts 20 to 30 minutes, and the purpose is to observe how people communicate, who takes the initiative and how disagreements are managed. This activity reveals a lot about how the team operates naturally.
Another highly effective activity is the “one-minute challenge.” We pose a simple but timed problem. It does not matter who wins, but how the group organises itself. It is one of the workplace integration activities that works best when we want to strengthen fast decision-making or prepare the team for periods of high workload.
At the Special Employment Centre we often organise workshops led by colleagues with disabilities from our own team. These activities are especially powerful as they foster real interactions without artifice, highlighting abilities rather than limitations.
They include:
This is where workplace integration activities become transformative tools.
Over the years, we have seen that many teams do not fail because the activity is poor, but because it is introduced without a method. These are the key steps we recommend at ARMONIA.
Before proposing any workplace integration activity, we carry out a brief informal assessment: confidence levels, communication, current conflicts… It is not the same to work with a newly formed team as with one that has been working together for years.
We always suggest avoiding critical hours: right before a deadline, at the end of the day or after a major conflict. Activities are more effective mid-morning or in short afternoon sessions, when the workload is manageable.
We have seen time and again that teams participate better when they understand why the activity is worthwhile. It is not “playing for the sake of it”, but about improving a specific aspect of their work.
After each session, we spend 5-10 minutes discussing what happened: what worked, what could be improved and how people feel. This is the part that turns the activity into real learning.
Workplace integration activities are not optional extras; they are an essential tool for creating inclusive, cohesive and productive environments. At ARMONIA we witness this every week, especially through our Special Employment Centre, where these activities are adapted to all kinds of profiles and needs.
If you want to improve your organisation’s atmosphere or are looking for effective, well-led activities, we would be delighted to help you design a plan tailored to your team.
